A tunnel tent is very much like a dome tent but is longer and so has more space which makes them better for more people when camping.
A tunnel tent will have poles that do not cross over each other like in a dome tent, there will be three or more poles with one at the entrance, one in the middle and one at the back of the tent.
Because they the poles do not cross over each other they are generally less sturdy than the dome tents but this is not important if you are not camping in extreme conditions and the tunnel tents will easily stand up to most weather conditions.
Tunnel tents are great though because they are larger and so can sleep more people, they often have two sleeping areas and a living area and many tunnel tents offer the option of removing one sleeping area to increase the size of the living area. Some of the tunnel tents can sleep 4 in each sleeping area and so can accommodate 8 people while still being more compact and sturdy than the old family tents.
